I just realised I have just finished watching Master and Commander: The Far Side Of The World from beginning to end tonight. Beginning to end.
What is the movie about?
As a viewer summarised it, it is this in a nutshell:
One ship, 197 men, 4500 miles from home. Chasing a French ship twice her size. No retreat.
That’s it. You can forget about family backgrounds or love interests too.
Let me also tell you, most of the ‘action’ in this movie did not involve fights or men displaying their testosterone-driven need to assert their masculinity. It was men working and living on a ship. It’s funny, how so devoid of action living can sometimes be.
I am trying to grasp the concept that a story about a sailing ship chasing after another sailing ship has had a hold of me for more than 2 hours. (At the same time, sempat lagi buat komen on how the law of the sea would work in the scenario, ie the jurisdiction of the ships vis-à-vis its position on the high seas vs the territorial seas. My brother seemed attentive enough.)
