No holds barred.

Aeschylus once said:

‘Happiness is a choice that requires effort at times.’

Sometimes though, it doesn’t. And even though we get wary and scared when something good happens, or when we laugh too much or feel too content because something bad usually happens right after (and when you’re so high up, it’s a long way down), sometimes we just can’t help it.

We’re happy in spite of ourselves.

Enough said here.

Agreed.

Happiness is not a choice. Sometimes we want to be happy, but we’re not. Sometimes we wait so faithfully for that moment of true happiness, thinking one day it will come. When in truth, today, this very moment, is happiness.

Actually Mardy, happiness can be a choice. Just like you wrote, life is beautiful, if you LET it. That’s a choice right there. :)
But what I really meant was sometimes we’re happy AGAINST our choice. I know it’s strange, because who would turn down a chance to be happy? But some of us do, because when we give in to that chance, something bad always happens after and the disappointment is crushing.

Even so, even with that knowledge though, sometimes we just can’t help it. Let the disappointment come tomorrow, because ‘today, this very moment, is happiness’. ;)
