An undergraduate’s final hurdle.

On sports:
A draw against 10 men? With Fabregas hobbling away? Are you kidding me? This isn’t the proper time to play below par! If Chelsea win tomorrow, we lose the lead, and we can’t afford that right now. Look at what happened to Arsenal last season. Complacency can wait til the day the Premier League trophy sits in the Liverpool silverware room.

In other news, I’m very proud of our Malaysian badminton team. Granted, we had a better chance because China didn’t play in the Masters, but the skills displayed on the court yesterday showed we’re gaining some ground. Hats off to the ladies too - I look forward to the day when I won’t be looking to the men’s singles and doubles alone. The Uber Cup doesn’t seem too impossible now.

—————

First day back to school today.

I’m still trying to grasp the term ‘graduating student’. The very words don’t really feel like they fit, especially for one who still gets easily distracted, who still has a wandering mind, who still babbles and giggles, who still isn’t quite all there.

Looking at the ickle firsties finding their way around the kuliyyah this morning, I tried to recall how it was back when I was a freshman, but the memory came in vague and variegated forms. I can’t remember, even though it doesn’t seem that long ago.

Going back to lectures strangely felt nice though. I guess when you’re on the brink of joining the real world, being a student feels safe. It’s a secure life. Most of us are lucky; the most we’d need to worry about is probably how to ace our papers and survive killer lecturers. There are some who aren’t as blessed, some who study with thoughts of their family back home struggling to earn a living, some who wonder whether they should quit and support their aging parents and young siblings instead, some who have to assume the role of the head of the family. These people are strong people. I don’t think they need to be worried about making it out in the world, they seem to be doing just fine balancing responsibilities and not making a big fuss out of it. I salute them. I’ve had the privilege of knowing one such person, and I have nothing but deep admiration for her.

Seeing friends again is always a cheerful (and loud) event. I really can’t describe it, it’s a mix of shouts and hugs and exclamations of how are yous and smiles. It’s uplifting.

Now that it’s the final semester, I hope we can make this one really count. We’ve been ending too many of our past sems with whimpers (no thanks to exam exhaustion), so let’s finish this one off with a real bang and give them juniors something to talk about. It’s time to become legends, fellow comrades.

To end this rather pumped up motivation cry, this is something that’s supposed to help counter and ease the upcoming onslaught of nerves, jitters, emotional tension and energy depletion so descriptive of the final semester…

…except I’m not quite sure I remember how.

(Yes kawan-kawan, it’s from last sem’s Evidence notes.)

Happy new sem, folks!

Let the craziness begin.

Enough said here.

Ah the first day of school…(it’s funny how saying ‘first day of uni’ or ‘first day of new sem’ doesn’t sound quite nearly as exciting right?)

I wish you the best sweetie. And crazy though the ride may be I’m sure you will do great!

p/s: I think I messed up somewhere and somehow ended up with the half written one up there. Whooops.
