Soldier on

Posted by: lubnaaa | October 11, 2008 |

I am absolutely knackered.

And when I consider the amount of work I’ve got to do before the finals arrive, I could just about hug an alarmed stranger and cry.

But I’ve got no time to break down either, so that’s out.

Sometimes, you’ve just got to soldier on.

So soldier on I will!

This is me being optimistic.

I was supposed to have started studying for my upcoming 4 tests last night or at least get some form of work done (this after having just submitted an assignment), but I was wayyy out of it.

Instead I browsed through my computer files, laughed at some home videos, decided on watching Sense and Sensibility over The Prestige and fell asleep as the final English country wedding scene faded and the credits started rolling.

Jane Austen has this effect.
She deviates the cynic.

—————

Lutfi posted this up a few entries ago, and it helped me a lot in getting through the hurdles of the past few weeks.

Thought I’d share as Sister Yusmahanim did before him, and as he did, and I hope it helps you as it did me:

Why am I tested?

‘Do men think that they will be left alone on saying “We believe” and that they will not be tested? We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false.”

[Al-Ankabut : 002-003]

Why don’t I get what I want?

“..But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth and ye know not.”

[Al-Baqarah : 216]

Why is this test so difficult?

“On no soul doth Allah place a burden greater than it can bear..”

[Al-Baqarah : 286]

Why am I so frustrated with myself?

“So lose not heart, nor fall into despair: for ye must gain mastery if ye are true in Faith.”

[Ali-Imran : 139]

How should I face them?

“O ye who believe! persevere in patience and constancy: vie in such perseverance; strengthen each other; and fear Allah; that ye may prosper.”

[Ali-Imran : 200]

What should I do?

“Nay seek (Allah’s) help with patient perseverance and prayer: it is indeed hard, except to those who are humble.”

[Al-Baqarah : 045]

What do I get out of all this?

“Allah hath purchased of the Believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the Garden (of Paradise)..”

[At-Taubah : 111]

Who should I seek help from?

“say: Allah sufficeth me: There is not god but He: On Him is my trust - He the Lord of the Throne (of Glory) Supreme!”

[At-Taubah : 129]

I cannot stand it anymore!

“..and never give up hope of Allah’s Soothing Mercy: truly no one despairs of Allah’s Soothing Mercy, except those who have no faith.”

[Yusuf : 087]

And remember to breathe, ok?
In and out, in and out.

Enough said here.

i want to say something but i think you’d know even when i don’t elaborate on it. it has something to do with 1) me reading the exact same verses that was sent to my inbox and 2) the weird coincidences that always happen even when we are miles apart.
:)

You’re proof that kindred spirits exist.

Even when our strange coincidences reach MAJOR proportions, I’m no longer (that) weirded out any more. It’s comforting. :)

So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief: Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.

[Al-Inshirah : 5-6]

A favorite of my mother’s. She’d always repeat this for my sisters and me. It’s easy to remember too, since we recite this surah often during prayers :)
Good luck! (though I know it’s a little late, sorry)

Never too late for good luck, Maddie luv. :)
Surah Al-Inshirah. I love that verse too.

Then there’s another one, it goes like this:
“La tahzan - Inna Allaha ma’ana”
Don’t be sad for God is with us

I can’t remember which verse from which surah though!
