This postcard makes me so very happy. It gives me hope.

Dinner last night was interesting. Abah had to leave suddenly on an overnight trip so I decided on Spiralli with Silverbeet Leaves because the picture looked shiny. I’ve had less better reasons before. The only problem was we didn’t have any spiralli and I had no idea what the heck silverbeet was. I texted two Nigella Lawsons and one Jamie Oliver if they knew; none had any clue. Widad tried to discourage me and requested for simple kuey teow but I was stubborn. I usually give up early if I can’t find the ingredients. I guess I was overcome by curiosity. You know the type, it’s the very one that killed the cat.

It wasn’t a complete disaster. I had to make a lot of substitutions. Macharoni instead of spiralli, tomatoes instead of capsicum, mincemeat instead of coppa (dried pork), red onion instead of white (it’s still onion apa) and some weird-looking sayur instead of silverbeet. The sayur looked ALMOST similar to the one in the book, so why not? What flawed logic.

While I was stirring the whole concoction, I was half-curious, half-afraid. I don’t like wasting food. It looked like it was going to be outstandingly horrific. Somewhere down the line I started wailing..before bending over and laughing my head off. The smell from the sauce was awful. Moral of the story is, if the recipe says “silverbeet leaves”, you only use silverbeet leaves and NOT something that looks similar.

The strange thing is it didn’t taste too bad, once you get used to the smell. Luqman and Widad actually finished their portion with no complaints. Won’t be trying that recipe in a while though. Tonight Abah returns, which means…kuah kurma.

Last night. Holland v Italy. Enough said. Hahaha
World Champions, indeed.

Now lets hope for a Spanish win tonight, eh?

Enough said here.

Lubna! I can’t open the link (the internet sangat slow, tak tau why), tapi right the moment I saw the word crap.jpg, I know what postcard that is because I’ve given the link to almost everyone! I really like the postcard! I wrote a comment on my friend’s blog saying that I really salute the photographer for this little confession, because, hey, see, you don’t need to be an expert in those technical thingamajigs to be a good photographer. And I’ll have to admit I prefer ‘unintentional’ shots rather than those who fixed whatever they want to fix (ISO, contrast, all the camera blahblahblahs) before they take any pictures.

One thing I hate is having people telling me that the way I take pictures is wrong. Pfft.

It’s such a turn-off!

silverbeet leaves is another word for chard or swiss chard. haha. spirelli amende tu? is it the same as fussili? pasta shape wont make any difference to the recipe actually, its sposd to help the different type of sauces cling to the pasta. red onion and normal onion rasa different! for it to taste like it’s sposd to, u have to use the correct ingredient haha. of cos, u can improvise.

i have a real simple quick pasta recipe. like seriously easy n taste just fine..u can impress ur dad :D, if he likes itallian food la. i call it pasta selamba.(my dad add ’selamba’ to every masakan yg dia terbuat secara tak sengaja by main campak2). u want to try, text me n i’ll mail u the stuff ;)

Spain 4-1 Russia

-and this was the team that knocked England out?

-aragones is gonna have a hard time deciding his starting XI when cesc put one in the net after subbing for torres

-despite results, my money is on france

That postcard (and the subsequent replies to it) just said it for me. Sure, knowing all that technical jargon might make you a better photographer, but it doesn’t GUARANTEE it. Besides, I’m a bit partial towards photos that didn’t take 10 steps, multiple dials and a half hour to compose.
Like yours! ;) Ala, don’t mind them. They’re probably just jealous. :)
Naj:
Spiralli is like those swirly macaroni types. You can google the images, that’ll give you an idea.
And yeah…I pakai hentam taruk je. Might not taste right, but the kids gotta eat SOMETHING. Lol!

Raihan:
Oh sure, please do. I think I need all the recipes I can get while I’m still in the experimenting mode.
About the masakan selamba, my aunt and granmama call it ‘masakan rawak’. Hehe.
My dad’s a malay dish freak. He’s not very open to anything else. No matter, I can cook for myself. :)
Luts:
Er..Croatia was the team that knocked England out from qualifying for Euro 08. And if you’re talking about the lat World Cup, that was Portugal.

Aragones is NOT going to have a hard time deciding his 11. Please. You didn’t watch it, you had exams, but Torres was very influential in his Villa pairing. Fab came on later, was hardly responsive and the header came in the final minutes and was the icing on top of the cake. It wouldn’t have changed the outcome.

France? Dude, my men in orange just kicked their butts last night! :D
