So.

Drive around Bukit Damansara in the morning, and you’re
bound to find yourself gliding alongside the rich and famous heading out for
work. It’s amusing watching the veeps whiz by with their security escorts
leading the way. At the traffic lights, you tend to stand out when your trusty wee car’s surrounded by huge Benzes and Beemers.

I’ve been interning at this nicely established firm in Bukit
Damansara since Monday, as part of the yearly law attachment programme. It’s
comparatively small to where my other colleagues have gone, but I like it that
way. The people here are close-knit and we had lunch with the lawyers for the
first two days. We’ve also encountered the firm’s partners, one of whom brought
in JCo doughnuts for the staff as a treat. Our supervisor’s a very direct
person, he just cuts the crap and gets straight to the point, which works for
me. It helps that he’s got a sense of humour. We followed him to the Duta court
complex on Tuesday, and waited for his case to be called to be heard in
chambers. Waiting took a while, so he says “don’t worry, after this case we’ll
go to the most important part of the day…” which got us pretty excited until he
said “…which is breakfast.” Watching how other lawyers there pass the time was
interesting; one was reading manga, some were chatting, some going through
their files, others were pacing and one caught my eye. I liked his face; it was
sharp, with intelligent eyes, and a confident smile. He looked pleasant and
seemed like the type you’d want handling your case.

For the past 4 days, Aisya and I have been nestled in the
firm’s library buried underneath books. We’ve been kept busy since the first
day, which I’m grateful for. So far, we’ve completed a heavy research on a
criminal appeal case regarding constitutional issues, drafted out a letter of
administration for probate proceedings, worked on a summons and statement of
claim for a break-in incident, and we’ve still got Order 83 on land to
complete. The setting’s very ideal for me; the library’s charming with its
thick wooden shelves and myriad of books. There’s even a proper step-ladder for
the top shelves. There’s a small glass-stained sunroof too, which is right
above the spot we work. Reading with natural light filtering down sets a nice
working atmosphere. The mood just settles in. The only problem is the noisy
construction going on right next door which drives us half-mad most of the time.

So. This is pretty much it for the next few weeks. We’ll see
how things turn out.

Enough said here.
