‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ will bulldoze you over. That’s all I will say. I’ve taken to accidentally using Afghani terms now, so pardon me if I let escape a foreign word or two.

The place we stayed in Bali was a family villa. Unfortunately, there were a few statues standing around the villa we were in, so Abah made Lutfi go to each and every room and sound the adhan. Lutfi started off in the room I shared with my sister. He began the “Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar” call at the top of his voice, before Abah suddenly came running back into the room.
“Jangan kuat sangat lah Lutfi! Nanti orang ingatkan kita ni Taliban!”
We thought it was hilarious.

Valentine’s Day was two days ago. A classmate of mine posed as a delivery boy, walked into class declaring he has a special delivery to make, before presenting a bouquet of chocolates to his girlfriend in front of the whole lecture theatre audience. This took place in the middle of a lecture, I might add. The guy has guts. We all knew he was a fellow student except the lecturer, though I think she suspects. For a better description of the whole thing, read Najia’s entry.
Ironically, on that same day, I was asked when I was going to grow a heart. I was tempted to quip “on my next trip to Oz with the Tin Man”, but instead I lamely replied that I had one. There’s just the matter of not having only one particular person in it. I don’t think about the affairs of the heart all that much, so I tend to forget I’m supposed to reserve some space where only one is to occupy. When I do though, I shrug it off because I don’t know what to make of it.
If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. C’est la vie.
