‘Eidul Fitr arrives

Posted by: lubnaaa | October 15, 2007 |

Might I just reiterate a point I once made about the baju Melayu?

It’s confirmed.

The baju Melayu is, without a doubt, the most elegant, most refined, sexiest attire there is for the modern man. Forget the tuxedo, it’s obsolete. Move all those formal vests to the back of the closet. There is nothing like seeing the full baju Melayu out on grand display, songkok, sampin and all. It is sophistication, personified.

That’s why there was serious eye-averting to be done after ‘Eid prayers on Saturday morning when all the brothers were filing out of the praying area. Didn’t want my niyyah to get misplaced.

I wish I could have written this on the first ‘Eidul Fitr day itself, so that I’d be able to have captured the celebrations that was. There’s nothing more honest when something is written in the euphoria of the moment. But then again, to post an entry on ‘Eid day itself? I think not. What kind of loser would you take me for then?

All I’m left with now is a shaky camera in my mind of what transpired that day, but that’s alright because most of what I remember was that this ‘Eid was one of the best I’ve had in years, despite it being incomplete.

I woke up with a less than average festive mood that day and found not much cause for celebration, but by night my spirits were soaring.

The crazy family function went on in the usual loud manner, but we had an additional treat in the form of stories and anecdotes. A cousin revealed how he proposed to his his fiance, an uncle shared his own version of how he met our aunt (we could tell he was pulling our leg because both he and her were snorting every time he laid bare a supposed fact) and my dad had several jokes up his sleeves which surprisingly actually worked. By the time the demos and acts came in, we were bent over in stitches and gasping for air.

I like remembering that. =)

Balik kampung was on the 2nd day, and that was equally awesome because for once, I got to meet more relatives than I have from previous years. Abg A was there with his family, which was a definite bonus. I hadn’t seen him in yonks, and he’s just as funny as I remember him to be. Tak sampai 2 minit jumpa, and already he had me snorting, which was dangerous considering I was handling hot water at the time.

Lawak gilerlah raya ni.

It’s this family’s first Eid without Lutfi this year. That’s why I call it incomplete.

We know he misses us terribly.

‘Eid Mubaarak, dear friends and strangers.
I pray you’ve found all that Ramadhan had to offer.

(Because behind the joys of the past couple of days, a part of me still wonders how far I’ve come, or whether I’ve moved at all.)

May Allah SWT bless you all.

Enough said here.

i agree 200% to the effect of the baju melayu. and nothing beats the full attire on a festive occasion be it raya, kenduri kahwin or even a kenduri doa selamat. i guess whoever created it in the years of the great malay warriors really had an eye for fashion. guess they had hang tuah and jebat’s built to work with. hence the slick cuts of a baju melayu..or at least i’d like to think that was how it was created.

happy that raya was a blast for u. wanted u to come over for raya. my mom just mentioned to me that of all my friends i speak of so often ur the only one she x pernah meet.

Raya felt as if there was a different spirit this year. more enjoyable. maybe it’s cause we’ve grown to understand the true meaning of it.

True !
I totally agree with you on Baju Melayu. :)

i love the baju melayu and i completely agree with it surpassing the tux. i know that murni, elyna and nik will agree with us on this point :-)

Daad: Please please PLEASE tell your Mom thanks so much for the invite. The first 3-4 days mmg tak dapat datang. But I’ll be sure to meet your Mom soon. ;)
Jannah: Irrelevant, but I love the Raya pics you posted on your obligatory Raya entry!

Daad, Jannah, Najia:
On the baju Melayu, we women have spoken.
Guys take note!

I… I…. I agree! Yes, it’s baju Melayu for me all the way.
I’d sooooo drool over a guy if he wears it.

My second choice would be to see a dude with kain pelikat and t-shirt pagoda putih! Hehe

Armani suits are soooo overrated.

elyna..kak tina would sell her soul for a man in kain pelikat, t-shirt pagoda putih and selipar jepun..that’s all she wants in a man..haha

Hahaa..

Lub!U are sooo right ’bout the baju Melayu..as it is, I once drooled over dis guy who was on his way to the mosque for Friday prayers..*sigh*

Anyways, u were not the only one who wasn’t in the mood that morning, I was feeling exactly the same way..Things got better tho..hahaaa..ya-know-wat-I-mean =)

Girls, need we say more? ;)
Ely-the kain pelikat with baju melayu top works as well. Haha!
