Yelah, aku tau baru semis je. Its not like they’ve won the FA Cup, although they’re now the favourites in the final.

But last night’s match was a big deal to me.

Most don’t know that Liverpool already have silverware for this season: the European Super Cup counts. But the FA Cup would definitely put Liverpool in a more distinguishable spotlight, and at the same time deny Chelsea a double.

Adding on to the fact that Chelsea were very much the favoured team, and Liverpool being the underdogs, no amount of support from the masses of people who called in to hitz.fm on Saturday to rally around Liverpool could make me shake off the notion that Chelsea were going to proceed and (unbearably) win the FA Cup.

Confession moment:

I can never sit through a football game without switching channels. It gets too nerve-wracking sometimes that I get shivers all over. I’d say that if you wanted me off the edge of my seat, football over horror any day would serve the purpose.

Last night was no different. My teeth almost chattered!

I had to control the degree of noise my whooping caused, because the rest of the house was asleep, but upon seeing Riise and Garcia finding the net, that was no easy task. Ended up smothering my face into the pillows so that I wouldn’t wake the neighbours up.

I admit, Liverpool beating Chelsea is a very rare event. Chelsea have the bucks working for them, and quoth a newspaper ‘can win all the trophies, but not the glory’. The Reds on the other hand, fall short in terms of the dough…but that’s where it ends. Here’s a struggling football club with practically no dosh and yet manage to pull off becoming the European Champions, reaching the FA Cup finals, etc etc. Maz complained that football has become an ‘all about the money’ game, where its the $$$ that determines the Champions, and that this beautiful sport has lost its lustre. My answer? Not so in Liverpool’s case. Classic example of a team who gain their victories with what they have through sheer hard work and determination. One of the many reasons why I have stuck by them all these years. Yes, memang aku bangga. Suka hati akulah nak puji team yang aku sokong.

What matters now is that Liverpool are through. What makes it better and sweeter is that Chelsea were the team they beat to accomplish that. Jose is such a sore loser. He screws up by benching Duff, Cole and Robben in the first half, Drogba misses good chances to score, many defensive mistakes are made, yet he says Liverpool win because of the refereeing decision?! Are you feckin’ kidding me?! That man has no shame.

Oh well. Now there’s a final to look forward to. I hope my unofficial sms football network stay awake with me throughout the coming game like last night. Those I texted with, that means you guys!

A bothering thought:

None of my family members have any interest in football, save my brother who I’d have to call since he’s usually on campus. My parents especially disapprove of me taking a liking to it. It isn’t proper nor lady-like, says they. At least they don’t openly ban me from watching the matches, but if I start discussing it with Lutfi in front of them, they start exchanging these looks and shake their heads. And this is just watching. Imagine if I played. Abah would boom and Ummi would have a fit. Sighs.

I can’t be prim and poised all the time. I’m sorry, dearest parents, but football is here to stay.

Enough said here.

I don’t really get leagues. In fact, don’t really get football though I do much prefer Euro over the World Cup as don’t really fancy them South American teams.

As someone had already fondly quoted this, I also can’t see the excitement of 22 men chasing over an effing football as if it was their last prized possession.

In fact, don’t bother much with this comment though as I just don’t get sports generally =/

dun worry lubna. you’re not the only girl in the world who’s mad about liverpool.

mum squealed with delight at that first goal.

me? i made myself an egg sandwich.

hahaha.

Faz:
Open up your heart to it, hun. When you allow it in, it’ll consume you whole and leave you with this tangible satisfying tingly feeling.

Yes, I am talking abt sports. Football in specific. Hehe.

Zuhairy:
*shakes head*
I seriously hope whatever Liverpool genes that skipped you would at least be passed on to your future kid. Ooh, we should switch parents during footie season. You can cook for my mum, and your mum and I can discuss the tactics employed by Rafa on the field, and muse over Jose’s decision to drop his wingers in the last match, and…

Well, you get the idea.

An open comment:
I’ve heard that there are girls amongst us who take an interest in the sport because of its guy-magnet factor…

…which means I can’t even enjoy a good football conversation without being judged.

I like the game, dammit. I may not know all the rules, and I’m a little slow when it comes to names (except the Reds), but I’m getting there.

Don’t judge us girls all the same, guys. Learn to distinguish the fakes from the true lovers.

Lubna, read your comment section.. don’t allow others’ shallow stereotypism of girls who truly appreciate football (is there such word? haha.. u get what i mean ;p) be in your way, dear..

Haha, wait, this is Lubna.. of course she wouldnt! =)

I am a natural ‘kaki bangku’.. i tried to play football since primary but i always end up being the goalie cos I’m better at “defense” (thats what all the coaches said ..haha)

It’s great to see ur enthusiasm with the sport!(esp. on your personal comments of the players up there)

Ey, i might just watch a match.
=) heh.

very true…you people who judge others so well by what you want to believe and not what u really know should get a grip and get a life..i’m sorry if you just feel ashamed or threatened that we girls know more bout football than you guys do..big deal..it’s a free world and we can like anything we want..so can you..just don’t be afraid to admit it..coz we aren’t..

Puteri:
Might or not, you won’t have a choice once the World Cup comes around. Everyone will be soaking up in the fever, and (with perhaps a lil nudge from me) I’ll find another fellow football fan after the Finals. ;P

Widaad:
You said it girfriend!
