This just in.

Been busy.

First things first: Liverpool’s through to the knockout stages. Woo hoo!

Former Manchester United great George Best has just passed away. He died of lung infection and organ failure. Actor Pat Morita, better known as Mr. Miyagi in the Karate Kid movies has also passed away at age 73.

They deserved a mention here, seeing as one was revered by Pele as the greatest footballer in the world, while another had entertained me when I was a young child. I’ll just leave it at that.

It’s been an interesting past few days.

Caught Harry Potter with some Rojak mates at GSC on Wednesday morning. Brought along my sister who wanted to see it too. Though the movie took out A LOT from the book, messed up some technical facts, hurried carelessly through the scenes and left patches here and there, I would say it was alright. After the movie, we couldn’t figure out what to do next and ended up walking from one end of OU to the other, to and fro, floor by floor, all the while just catching up on what’s been happening and really having no idea where we were going. It was sort of funny.

Yesterday began early.

I’ve been contemplating doing a Raya open house for some time now after attending a couple of my friends’ and finally decided against it after the whole my-brother-and-his-battalion fiasco which almost completely depleted our Raya sources. So that was that.

Til Mum suddenly gave the green light and said she would help out. I made some last minute invitations on the spur of the moment, and held an informal gathering yesterday. A very simple one. Kan Najia? ;)

It was an all-girls affair, with the exception of Ashli who came as an escort. The rest were my sister’s friends. I was given charge of dessert, and thank God that turned out fairly well. There wasn’t a crumb of Eve’s Pudding left for me to try, so I’ll blissfully mark that as a sign of success.

It ended alright, Alhamdulillah.

Lots of things been going on in the news lately. Brief comments:

Michelle Leslie. Love her or loathe her, she really deserves a good knock on the head. Regardless of whether she’s Muslim or not, the fact that she acted the way she did after she was released shows that she lacks proper respect, maturity and intelligence. What kind of an idiot would pull that stunt? It was her smugness that got to me. The fact that she knew that what she was doing was going to spark off a controversy which she knew to be completely insensitive to conservative Muslims, and thinking of banking on this too…it was enough to make me shake my head at how stoopid some people can get.

If you’re a videogamer, listen up. In.Tech ran an article last Tuesday about games which introduced a new genre-games that gave peace a chance instead of the usual, run-of-the-mill violence, bombs and bloodshed. An American university is currrently developing a game where the mission is to make peace and ease conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians, while online game www.food-force.com focuses on feeding the hungry. An upcoming game settles on trying to end the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. About time, I say. At least there’s a step in the right direction so that peace can be realised, even if it’s a little step. It still makes all the difference.

Woke up early today to fetch Lutfi from INTEC. After the long day yesterday, it was probably one of the few times I admitted to actually not wanting to drive anywhere. He’s done with his exams, meaning his hols has started and mine’s already ending. Bugger.

Picking him up was an embarassing event. He failed to mention he had with him luggage equivalent to one who is preparing to move mansion, and half an hour or so was used to cram the contents of what looked like the remains of a semester gone wrong into a tiny Kembara. He actually suggested I make 2 trips. To Shah Alam? From where we lived? I think not. Suffice to say, we managed to occupy every last molecule in the jeep, which sagged a great deal, and left the college to the amusement of our uninvited audience who were hanging around in the parking lot. Bugger them.

I’ve just figured out why Raihan and Yani go gaga at the sight of Tyson Ritter. Its his eyes. My God. Those eyes!

And that last sentence is a sure indication that I need my sleep now. For you folks who’ve sent me unreplied messages and calls, my sincere apologies. I’ll get back to you guys ASAP, Insya Allah.

Enough said here.

when i saw michelle on cnn after her release, she was wearing sumthin fairly decent (no midriff, no cleavage). it wasnt provocative at all. i, for one, wasnt offended.

when she was on trial, her headscarf was just for the sake of covering the head, a la bhutto. there was a lot of hair showing. why didnt anyone stir any hoo-haa back then?

shes a recent convert. cut her sum slack.

There wasn’t a lot of ‘hoo-haa’ back then, because she stated that she was wearing the headscarf, and at one point, even a burqa, to ‘feel closer to God’ and ppl got that she was a ‘recent convert’ and probably wanted to ‘cut her some slack.’

I’ve got nothing personal against her, but the complete transformation to a tank top and skintight jeans straight after her release, along with her sipping wine, seems hypocritical.

Even if hypocrisy isn’t the issue here, its a blatant sign of disrespect. She could’ve at least waited til things quietened down.

I was definitely offended.

i feel the same way lubna. she showed no respect at all, from wearing a burqa then to wearing skimpy clothing sipping wine. even tho she’s a recent convert, she should at least not have drunk the wine. she’s just asking for her own trouble there. and what was that in yesterday’s newspaper that they bribed the indonesian court?
ur openhouse was pretty simple because there were only a few guests! ur sisters and urs. it was a nice one tho lubey! :-) i’ve gone thru my share of embarassment with luggage and boarding school. i brought a lot of things and the luggage i brought was huge–a black, hard suitcase. u could sit on it!

Lubna, im saddened by the death of Pat Morita too.. I’ve been a karate kid fan all my life ;( ..

On Michelle Leslie, i doubt she converted for the right reasons since the beginning anyway. it’s obvious now isn’t it?

Hey, I like the idea of anti-war games. Maybe I’d get one if it reaches our shores, my brothers sure need brainwashing from all that gory bloodfest games they love.. I think it’s a real thoughtful, effective effort!

=)

am hardly keeping out with the news here though i did hear sum stuff bout this michelle b****, i used stars as of respect to you, lubna, so you could be proud of your well mannered self, hah. could anyone be kind enuf to explain it short, pure and simple? btws, yeah, great idea for the anti-war game, though the occasional blood bath wont hurt if played in a reasonably acceptable amount, depends on how reasonable and acceptable mean to you, that is. as of for me, let’s not even go there coz it’s a whole different story and i’d just like to spare all of you the though and time, so there.

er, typo, *thought*.

Faz: I have no complaints on bloodbath games when one is only able to vent via violence through the help of graphics, audio and visuals.

Michelle Leslie is an Aussie model who got caught in a Bali club for being in posession of Ecstasy pills. During her stay in jail, she purportedly converted to Islam, and attended her trial in modest Muslim clothing, hence winning the sympathy and support of the Indonesians who saw someone who was trying to start over. Her ’strategy’ must have influenced the court, as she was released and you know what happened afterwards.

oh, thanx for the low down, hon. no one has the manner to share these days. can’t really blame them though since this is your blog and if sum1 were to explain it to me b4 u do, they have the crazy perception tht thy’re bein nosy at sumbody else’s blog. see, i do try my very best to see the good in people…. shesh, dunno y suddenly am bein melodramatic pulak, haha.

btw, well, since i havent seen how ugly this michelle looks like, it’s all just materials that amuse me. maybe i need to learn to be more sensitive….
