Caught Off Guard

Listening to: Fallen-Sarah Mclachlan

Imagine this, if you will:

You’re sitting with a friend, listening intently to her, concentrating fully on the situation at hand, when suddenly out of the blue pops a lad who walks right up to you and asks whether you’re (insert your name here). You reply yes, and wonder briefly whether he’s someone from one of your classes which you’ve failed to recognise. He then proceeds to tell you that he’s a messenger, and hands over to you a gift-wrapped object, which he says is something someone wants you to have. You then naturally ask him who the person is, and he shrugs and replies that he doesn’t know. What would you do?

In my case, being the speed-retarded git that I was, all I could do was hold the gift in my hand, stare at the poor bloke who was smiling sheepishly and had the expression of someone trying to divide 2698 by 359 (the answer’s 7.515320 by the way). I handled it horribly, to say the least. I kept on pushing for at least a name, but the guy only smiled, apologised, and repeated that he did not know. He did mention it was a guy, though. Which left me completely stumped. Before I could interrogate him properly, complete with the hard plastic chair and swinging lone lamp, he scampered off and I was left with a gift that felt (irresistably) like a book. Oh dear.

Somehow, I managed to push aside my shock and confusion and asked my friend to continue where she had left off. She was obviously curious, but I didn’t feel it the right time nor place to opne it, and besides, we were focusing on her before the interruption. It’s wrong to be selfish, and I’m not saying this in a holier-than-thou way. It just is. Trust me, I know.

Walking back to my room was excruciatingly painful for me. I kept on reprimanding myself in my head at how silly it was of me to just accept the gift without questioning the..err, ‘messenger’ further. I felt like returning it, truth be told. It didn’t feel right at all. The problem was, I didn’t even know where to begin. Besides…it was a book. I could tell. Someone out there knows my weakness.

I set the book aside initially, because I was unexplainably afraid to open it. Once I did…I think I may have deafened my entire block. It’s the book I’ve wanted sincesince forever. My sister wanted to buy this book for me for my birthday. This book’s been at the top of my Wish List for quite a time. I Saw Ramallah, with no explanatory note, no card, nothing. There it was, staring right back at me, seemingly taunting me with its silence as it knew who had bought it, and I did not.

Aih.

I’m being dramatic again. I have my suspicions though, on who the mysterious gift-giver could be…

I’ve just checked my e-mail. My suspicions have been confirmed.

Enough said here.

Erm, you should be extra careful after this. You are lucky enough Lubna as it is only a book, what if the gift sent was a bomb or anthrax could be..but i am extremely sure, that ’sender’ wouldn’t do it to you definitely.. ;o)

I’d like to think I haven’t made any enemies…:)
