I’ve forgotten how much I enjoy my conversations with Khairie until he called last night at 1am (normal talking time for us) and reminded me. He posed an interesting question he had asked his friend earlier…where do you draw the line between foolish stubborness and perseverance? My only answer was that it differs with people; some would say giving up is stopping halfway, while to others, there isn’t any such thing as a halfway point. An interesting curiousity.
Today’s classes have ended for the day, since tutorial this evening’s been cancelled. I should start studying for another Mid term test I have tomorrow (Malaysian Legal System II, though interesting, can be tricky) but typically I still have my butt glued to the seat…I will never, ever learn.
I had quite an interesting day today…went travelling all around the world with Aisya and Sofiah after lunch. We went everywhere, from China to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Jordan, stopped by at Australia, and made a good visit to Palestine…and generally passed by Thailand, Yemen, Myanmar and other countries. Before you reprimand me on my seemingly lack of geographical knowledge, I’m just listing these countries from the top of my head. In all seriousness, we were visiting these international stalls that were exhibiting the traditions, colours and cultures of their country. It was very cool, and I’m glad Aisya persuaded me to go. I felt a whole lot less ignorant after our visits.
Sofiah and I bought scarves in Palestinian colours at the Palestine stall, which I’m wearing around my tudung at the moment. I’ve been at the receiving end of many strange glances from people, but I really must make it clear here that I’m not trying to make a fashion statement. The word ‘fashion’ and ‘Lubna’ have never gone well together, lest you insert the words ‘lack of’. This is my declaration of support of the Palestinian cause.
An embarassing incident occured just now though. Yes Aisya, I want to put this down to remind myself in the future of the absurd things I go through every day. While we were making our way to the library, we were passing the Palestine stall when Sofiah starts ranting about how the Palestinian guy manning the stall was hitting on me earlier on. I was like, what? and had to stop in my tracks because the whole concept was too foreign and hilarious to even consider. What happens next? Aisya joins in! They both then start warbling about how their questions were not attended to, and that the guy was constantly by my side, ignoring their enquiries. Codswallop, I say. Sofiah’s probably mad because she got one Free Palestine sticker instead of the two that I got. Yo Sofiah, we can just go back and ask the dude for another one, ok? What was so humiliating was the fact that they were going on about it smack in front of the stall! Thank God he wasn’t there, though his friend was, and had this knowing look on his face. If there was a hole right there in the ground, I would have jumped right in.
Anyway, I really need to get started on studying. Will be going home tonight, Insya Allah, and will probably spend the night writing long testimonials (I don’t believe in short one-liners) instead of preparing for tomorrow.
Such is the hopeless case that is Lubna.
Enough said here.
